If you're doing a judicial clerkship out of law school, you really have no idea what your job options are going to look like after you finish. Your judge will know EVERYONE and will have all sorts of connections for you that you can't even imagine right now.

I clerked at the state court level and that was my experience -- a phone call from the judge meant an interview almost every time. The federal level will be even more extreme.
