in a hospital, and having an MD administer an epidural and deliver the baby is a bad thing?! Is this just something I'm seeing in DFW?
I've got 3 women on my FB feed that just got certified as mid-wives. They are crazy! Their posts consist of statements like "When I gave birth to (insert weird spelling of Jackson, Heber, or Emma) I wasn't in touch with my body, all because the evil doctor gave me an epidural. He didn't listen to me or my needs when I told him that I want to give birth on all fours in a kiddie pool filled with water the color of the tides at Omaha. We weren't even allowed to take the placenta home and make jerky out of it for our food storage. He just wanted what was best for him"
Then they use it as a way to promote their own midwife services. "Midwives listen to you and are about what feels best for you and the baby. We're just as well trained as any doctor and can relate to you because we are all young mothers!" Yes, because having given birth qualifies you to deliver a baby.
There is a reason people have babies in hospitals, and it's not because the evil big-pharm-loving doctors want your money. It is because it's the safest thing for the mother and child.
My wife is going to give birth to our first in August. The hospital serves a steak and lobster dinner the next day to celebrate. As far as I'm concerned, until midwives offer that I won't take them seriously. I've got some women to unfriend on FB. Rant over!
