I'm from the west coast. My wife and I are looking for a nice place to go for 3 or 4 days in the New England area. Don't really want to go to the big cities or amusement park type stuff. We are interested in a more rural experience. Food is good. Shopping is good. Looking around and driving is good.

One person suggested Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire so I'm looking into that. Any suggestions of places to go, see, stay (B & B) would be helpful.
