Both are winter sports/ski towns but they are both fantastic in the summer and early fall.

We're not really into B&Bs because I don't like having to socialize with the owner(s) or the other guests. In Stowe, we like staying at the Trapp Family Lodge (Sound of Music fame) and in Lake Placid, we like Mirror Lake Inn.

The Mount Washington area in New Hampshire is also very nice.

Cooperstown, NY would be another recommendation.
