While the AP polls may put 2 of them in the top-4, no way the committee does.
But I agree that not having the CCG would probably help them more often than not place a team in the top-4 more frequently.
Of course it can hurt them too, as we all saw this year. But I think it was unlikely that the exact 4 teams that needed to win their conference championship games all won, and OSU won in as much of a blowout as they did to jump to that #4 spot.
