At the University of Washington, Spring football starts with a combine testing event that fans and media are invited to attend. This approach has several advantages:
1. Would motivate the players to come into spring football in great shape to impress (and not be embarrassed).
2. Would give players practice with combine testing.
3. Would give coaches a better understanding of who their athletes are. Three combine tests are correlated to success in the NFL: Vertical jump, three cone drill and broad jump. If these tests are an accurate predictor of NFL success, wouldn't they also be useful in college?
