BYU and the "legacy" kids
Reading through the various Bronco post today, I started to ask myself: how much pressure does the football staff feel to give offers to the best legacy kids?

Each year, we see several offers going to prospects that are mostly unheralded (few, if any, stars), and then come to find out that they're related to a former BYU great or member of the current coaching staff, etc. The CB collective gets mad that these kids are getting offers over others (or before others) that they consider more talented -- Exhibit A this past year: Timpview's Devin Kaufusi vs. his teammate Gabe Reid.

So it's got me wondering how much pressure there is to get these legacy kids. Does the football staff feel that they at least need to extend an offer, even if they have other prospects they'd prefer? Or do they only offer "the best" of that group? Do they sometimes look at those prospects with blue goggles and see more potential there than really exists? Are there certain family names that they'll go out of their way to keep happy for future interests?

It's an interesting dynamic that I hadn't considered before. I'd be curious to hear some opinions about it.
