I wondered the same thing when I perused the pages of the BYU magazine last week

Downtown Provo was a dump when I attended in the 90's. Downtown had a steady turnover of tenants, lots of empty storefronts, and a bunch of seedy motels just south of Center Street. The magazine article made it sound like Provo was the second coming of Palo Alto.

For anyone that currently frequents Provo downtown, is it really a lot better

Yes, there is a noticeable difference in the energy downtown.

I am always nervous about being towed when I visit Provo. Too many stories.
