since it was created in 2000. And that's counting wins for Nevada and Utah State, before they were in the MWC. To say nothing of NCAA Tournament wins by SMC, Pacific, Pepperdine, and San Diego. Count 'em. The 11 MWC schools have combined for 19 NCAA Tournament wins since 2000 (1.7 wins per school). The 9 WCC schools not counting BYU have combined for 26 NCAA Tournament wins since 2000 (2.9 wins per school). Say what you want about Gonzaga being the star of the show. But GU is the best program in either conference, and it's not close. Better that BYU have at least one nationally respected opponent in its conference. SDSU, with their 6 NCAA tournament wins ever (their first ever NCAA tournament win and first Top 25 appearance was in 2011), and their 2 Top 25 finishes, is as good as it gets in the MWC.
MWC success was an illusion that never materialized into anything meaningful. It reached it's peak in 2011. The MWC has a pitiful post-season history.
If you can't be in a Top 6 basketball conference, give me the conference with better TV, better money, better Olympic Sports, better history, better academics, and at least 1 High Major opponent (Gonzaga).
Pretty much the only advantage the MWC has over the WCC is arena size.
