I think he's changed quite a bit on that, though.
Obviously, Bronco's never been dumb to value of athletic talent--but I think at a philosophical level he over-emphasized it at times, & possibly because he knew that BYU was never going to compete with the best if it put too much stock in athletic ability.
Earlier in his HC career, Bronco was naively optimistic about the ability of talent & precise scheming to beat athletic superiority. Nowadays I think he's considerably more realistic on that than he was a decade--or even just five years--ago.
