My qualifiers - a 4 year, no benefits veteran and a son on a police force. When I have extra, I am willing to donate to Wounded Warrior and DAV because I understand they target niche areas that are not, or poorly, addressed by the VA. If I'm wrong, don't tell me. As for the first responders like my son, they are well covered and compensated for what they risk and do. He is also a SWAT team member which is a competition earned extra assignment. Where there are holes in their benefits, it usually takes an incident or two to get attention, i.e., a year ago a sheriff's deputy was killed in the line of duty and his wife was left without her husband's retirement benefits. That situation got public attention and pressure to retroactively fix the problem, which happened.
