The moment when my feelings on BYU Football/Sports in general changed...
It seems like stories are polarizing, so I'll thrown in mine for fun.

My parents are BYU alum. My siblings and in-laws are all BYU alum. One set of grandparents even made it to the University. My father used to wake us all up for school with the fight song, "Oh rise and shout..." We bled (and still bleed) blue. We loved watching the games but particularly my mother. She took every loss hard and as a result missed lots of key plays because she was so nervous (Harline - the answered prayer, BYU-UCLA '07 blocked field goal)

I got back from my mission in 2005 and was there for the BYU-TCU game where we lossed in OT due to the questionable non-call on the fumble near the endzone. Anyway, as I was walking home from the game, I called my mother to see how she was doing. She had missed the entire OT, lying in her bed with the door shut so she couldn't hear the sound from the TV (she's recounting this). At the end of the game, my dad opened the door, told her the result, and was then told to leave. I consoled my mom, hung up and had an epiphany: it's football.

I love BYU. I want them to do well and I love to cheer for them and hate it when they lose but it's not my livelihood. My draft status is not affected by this outcome. The draft status of my family isn't affected by this game . The relationnship I have with professional sports is almost entirely one-sided and I derive no direct benefits from it (except with Jimmer. My testimony grew with every shot). So if this is what viewing sports has to offer me, why get all hot and bothered by its fickle nature? I'm sure the BYU fans who take every win and loss much more personally than I do (like my mom of old) will also have that much more pleasure derived from a NC, but that's not something I want to gamble my weekly emtions on.

Anyway...
