IMO, it's as much a reflection of the discourse on the board than fan interest.
The board is a far more hostile and negative place than it was in the past. Many of the most entertaining posters have checked out because they simply grew tired of the increasingly negative tone.

When it becomes a standard practice to turn off the football category you know there is an issue with tone. This is primarily a sports board and football is king. Turning off football is somewhat like turning on a concert but leaving the volume down.

Somewhat waning interest is an issue however across the sports world. Even the NFL is starting to see it's numbers flat line a bit. People are bombarded with choices these days. Competition in entertainment is simply much higher than it's ever been. Translate that, coupled with other options to follow BYU outside Cougarbaord and it would not be surprising to see a reduction in posts. The world is a dynamic place. There are more choices.

I've made this board more bearable by ignoring many of the posters that make the site a drag to me. That probably cut my number of posts in half or more...because I spent most of my time on the board trying to defend players, coaches, administrators etc., that I thought were being unfairly maligned. It was/is stupid. I know I'm urinating into a hurricane. But it's my nature. If there are others like me who follow a similar path, you will naturally see some balkinazation of the board.

I still follow the Cougs...I just don't rely on this board as the catch all anymore.
