(Standing in line at Pappas BBQ in Houston with my HCBW, I was representing with Oval Y shirt and Y hat. Lady behind me says...)
Aggie's wife (smiling): "Nice shirt."
Aggie's approx 9-10 yr old son: "Yeah!"
Aggie: (rolls eyes) "No, not a nice shirt."
Me: (not knowing he was an Aggie, and naturally assuming...) "Oh, I guess it would be better for you if it were a red shirt with a big U on it, huh?
Aggie: "No, a blue shirt with a big U on it."
(meanwhile, Aggie's wife and son are explaining how they are BYU fans)
Me: (honestly, for a moment I really did not know what he was talking about, but after a brief pause I realized, but decided to have some fun. With a confused look on my face I said...) "Blue...U...? Is that Weber State?"
Aggie: (who never cracked a smile, and was downright grumpy from the start, while his wife and kids were trying to be friendly to my wife and I, says frustratingly...) "Utah State!"
Me: "Oh, I thought you were purple."
Aggie: (now realizing I'm jerking his chain, still doesn't smile, rolls his eyes again, and makes an uninterpretable sound)
The encounter ends awkwardly and we go about our dinners separately.
