You do know Memphis finished ranked and was favored, right?
I often find it ironic that BYU fans assume the same posture that the power school fans assume in presuming the name matters in a football game. It doesn't. All that matters is how good is that team at that time. Memphis was better than BYU last year...and as a result they went in to the game favored...and they won. It doesn't matter that there name is Memphis just like it didn't matter than we were BYU and Texas was Texas...or we were BYU and Oklahoma was Oklahoma...or Miami with Ty...or pick a game where we have beaten a team with a bigger brand.

Memphis was a better team last year. They were better over the course of the year, they were better in the game, and they were recognized for being a good team by finishing the season ranked. No team truly has the right to disrespect a team that is better at the time based on a name or history...but BYU in particular. Why? Because BYU was the team that made it trendy to be the little guy beating the big guys. BYU's National Championship lead to the Bowl Alliance, the BCS, the token slot for the little guys and now the playoff. It's because of BYU...and most recently Boise State...that the powers that be keep trying to tweak the system to maintain power...while appearing to throw a few crumbs.

Memphis was a better team last year. BYU could have...and maybe should have won. But there is a reason Memphis was favored going in and a reason they ended up ranked. They were a good team.
