Just teach him to comply or there will be consequences. A great quote by someone that I've seen on a few principal's desks goes something like this: "You can choose your actions but you can't choose your consequences." Really the best thing you can do is side with the adult and let the child know you love him. Don't make excuses for his actions. Trust me on this.
