It's in the pad, if you don't clean it up after it happens,
It's tough to get it all out. We use a high heat carpet cleaning guy and whenever any of our dogs ever had accidents I found vinegar along with carpet cleaner did the trick, but that was cleaning it before it dried. May be better to replace the carpet.
