Its a period piece/cop series about the late 60's, the hippie movement, the early Charles Manson years, race relations, etc..

I'm a sucker for David Duchovny, so I checked it out, and found it rather dark, but still decently entertaining. What is really fascinating is that after the premiere, NBC released all 13 episodes on their app, for binge/VOD watching purposes (ala Netflix), while still continuing to broadcast the episodes weekly.
