My crazy view on Big12 expansion...quality
I am a college football fan and I watch games every week. Sure I have my teams that I cheer for, but mostly I watch the good football games with quality compelling match ups. It doesn't matter that I live in Big10 country, I watch games all over the country regardless of conference. It seems like most of my friends all of the country that like football do the same basic thing.

With that in mind, I don't full understand all of the television talk about base market size, alumni, or "cultural fit" when it comes to realignment. I also don't see how adding 2nd tier schools in Florida or Ohio to your conference make a recruiting difference for most Big 12 members. If you are dealing with a major player like Texas or OU I can perhaps see where these factors may help a bit, but for most schools it shouldn't. Here is my crazy idea: simply add the two teams that make for the most compelling football to watch on TV. Isn't that what will add actual value and credibility among college football fans?

With that in mind, I didn't have a huge problem with the Big 12 adding TCU and WVU because they were arguably the best football programs available at the time (I know that is up for debate with BYU and Louisville also considered, but not an outrageous claim). Right now, it seems like the addition of Boise State and BYU will add far more football credibility and result in a lot more Big12 games being watched by fans of college football than the addition of anyone else and these two would actually make the Big 12 a better football conference than it is at present. Obviously I am clueless.
