So help me, I'm writing an expansion post ...
Not sure how much I trust Colin Cowherd for this kind of thing, but ...

The big wild card with Texas is the Longhorn Network. People can say "the Pac-12 wants Texas" all they want. Is ESPN going to let them out of their $300 mil LHN deal that runs through 2031?
Jon Wilner has been talking about how the Pac-12 presidents might be interested in selling some equity in the Pac-12 Network. So far, they're not interested in selling equity to a TV partner just to get money now and better distribution, but what if they were selling equity in exchange for money now, and getting Texas?
Maybe that's how they get Texas in. Who knows?
Either way, BYU getting a lifeline to the Pac-12 will be be pretty tough. The easy thing would probably be for them to take the 4 Texas schools and be done with it. But would Texas take the chance to ditch Baylor and TCU? The Texas legislature probably makes them take Texas Tech, but I'm not sure if Baylor and TCU have the same pull. That's about BYU's only hope.
What the Big 10 does in this instance would be interesting. Do they take Kansas and UConn? Not much football power there. Who else could they grab other than raiding the ACC? Maybe they take Kansas and BYU in the Big 10 West.
