So...I paid off my mortgage yesterday. Ain't gonna lie: It feels pretty frickin'
good to be 42 and debt-free, particularly considering where I've been. At age 30, I had been carrying $50,000 in debt from a failed business for seven years and had no equity in anything. Total net worth was -$45,000-ish. But I kept plugging away, paid every bill on time while sometimes working two full-time jobs, and now here I am, ten years later. My salary has tripled, my wife and kids are happy and provided for, and I don't owe a penny to a soul. Frick. Yes.
