Here's the thing: As a fan, we're always so concerned about having cap space.
But right now we have no reason to care. Everyone will have tons of cap space next year. I'm not saying they should offer him 5 years $60M. I'm saying 2 or 3 years at $15M per year. They have to pay someone. They literally have to pay someone. They have to hit the league minimum salary. They're going to have to either overpay someone significantly (and they'll have to overpay them even more next year because EVERYONE is going to be overpaid) now, or take a chance on someone like Matthews. If he recovers from the injury, it'd be a great move. If he doesn't, again, they had to pay someone. Who else should they go after? They're going to be making craploads of money on the new TV contract. No one is going to come to Utah.

I'd rather take a chance on Matthews than overpay Aaron Brooks or Jeremy Lin or CJ Watson. They have to use their money sometime.
