Has anyone acted as their own contractor for a room addition?
Here's my deal, we want to 'bump out' our existing walk in closet about another 80 ft. Basically it will be footings, slab, framing, roof, small amount of electrical, no plumbing, no significant Hvac, drywall and flooring. Originally we were going to add another room associated with that for another 400 sq ft but we've had a number of contractors come out... and I guess they are really busy these days, and we live in a more 'affluent' community so the bids have been really high. Like, $200 a sq ft (which did include adding an AC unit) I don't want to spend that much, so we scaled back the plans and just want to bump out the closet80-100 sq ft.

How much would and addition like that realistically cost having a contractor do it, and how hard would it be to contract it myself. It almost seems like the project would be too small to any contractor doing a bid would just overbid it so they can make their profit. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.
