He said "blow up a team"
I know that's not what he's advocating but that's what I was joking about.

People want the Jazz to sign a free agent because the cap is going up and it makes the risk of a bad contract go down. The problem is, it's not that simple.

For one, the Jazz aren't the only team with money to burn. Almost every team can spend right now. It's impossible for the Jazz to overspend on a guy as a competitive advantage when five other teams can offer the same amount.

The other problem is fit. There are literally three slots to add an extra player to. Backup PG, backup SF, and backup C. Which free agent should the Jazz go get to fill any of those slots? I would gladly take Raul Neto over the remaining field at PG. I would gladly take Tibor Pliess over the remaining field at C. I am open to suggestions at back up SF, but I won't be sad at all if we stick with Milsap and Ingles.

The most likely move to happen at all (other than signing Neto and Pliess) is taking on a salary dump by trading Booker. If the Jazz can get a player they like (or future 1st rd pick) for trading Booker's contract, that's what will happen.

I know people want to see the Jazz spend as a sign of effort but the truth is -- and we've always known this -- free agency won't be a primary source of growth for the Jazz.
