Then why not just trade the pick on draft night?
They reportedly had options to do that.
Anyhow I think it has to do with preserving cap space for potential trades and not so much about trading Lyles, although there was some speculation it had to do with terms as well, which doesn't make sense either since rookie nba contracts are pretty much set at certain ranges.
