a question for lawyers...
I hired a guy to do some contract work....he did a terrible job and he wants me to pay him $500 for the work...but here's the thing. He's an illegal immigrant from mexico who (before he did the contract work) went over to his ex-wifes house and committed a few crimes. He was instantly deported and 4 months later he has illegally crossed the border again and wants $500 for the contract work.

Normally, even if I don't like the work done I would still pay the person. But in this guys case, he did really bad work and cost me as much money as he helped. The fact that this dude committed a crime, was deported, and came across the border again upsets me.

Do I have a legal obligation to pay him for the shoddy contract work?

TIA
