Let's talk straight. BYU IS difficult, but not in the way people think
BYU is unique. We know that. It's one of our strengths. It can also be perceived as a weakness.

Think about this from the P5 school president's and AD's perspective. How many teams would literally do ANYTHING (use your imagination), to have a seat at the big boys table. At an absolute minimum they would want to sit down and have drinks with them (this is what Dodds and Del Conte did). BYU doesn't really do that (soft drinks aside:). Then, not only does BYU stick to their principles (among others), but they actually have one REQUEST, which will never change! We won't play on Sundays. This has got to be so foreign for a power broker like an AD in one of these conferences, that a school comes in with a request, and isn't willing to sell their own children to get in our conference! It's like the voters who are so used to someone saying anything to get their vote, but then someone comes in and is honest with them, and it might cost them. So, from that standpoint, BYU can be difficult and can rub people the wrong way. It is what it is. I was talking with a former BYU QB the other day and he said "since when have the Mormons ever been included at the cool kids table?" It's not really who we are. We have to live with who we are. If it keeps us out, so be it. We'll make our own way.

But it's not that we are difficult just to be difficult, like it seems that many think. We are "difficult" because we keep our standards, in a day and age when it seems that no one else does. If you can't accept that, you should cheer for another school.
