I speak for myself, and in doing so, I expect that many, if not most BYU fans will differ with me on this issue, but this is how I see it.

1. Utah Utes have left us behind and while we still consider them to be our biggest rival, they would rather identify themselves as a
rival to a respected P5 conference team, like UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, USC, but not Colorado and not BYU.
2. Utah State would like to consider themselves as the BYU rival, but that would be hard for many BYU fans that remember them as a
give me game, when until this past decade, we won almost ever game we played against them.

Arizona and Arizona State, while in the WAC with us, left us behind to join the Pac 8/10.
TCU while in the MWC with us, left us behind to join the Big 12.
Utah Utes that use to be our rival while in the WAC and in the MWC with us, left us behind to join the Pac 10/12.
To consider the Utah State team as our rival would just be another set back for many of us.

3. Since no P5 conference team wants a non P5 conference team as a rival, not wanting to lower their standards by having a non P5
conference team as their rival, that leaves just one, and only one logical team, still in the G5 grouping, but having not one, but two
successful BCS bowl games listed among their recent success, and-------be in contest with us for the next possible P5 opening,
BOISE STATE does indeed have the feeling as the only true rival at this point, even when we want that rivalry to be vs. the Utah Utes.
