In a seller's market, the builders have substantial control. If demand is high,
they can demand pretty much whatever they want. The only way to not get raked over by the builders is to take your ball and go home, preferably before you've made your non-refundable deposit. Wait until it is a buyer's market again and they are frantic to move inventory. New development salespeople are the worst.
