Costa Rica report
I hit up CB a while back for some ideas on what to do/see in Costa Rica. We just got back from our trip last week so I figured I'd report on our experience.

First off, gear count: BYU 2 (including me), Boise State – 1, Florida state – 1, that’s about it.

Costa Rica was awesome. The first part of our trip we checked out Manuel Antonio park, which was great. We saw three types of monkeys, sloths, Iguanas, and actually got chased by some of the white faced monkeys. I thought it was hilarious, but it freaked my wife out. We did some whitewater rafting, which was a blast.

Then we drove up to Tamarindo area and stayed at the JW Marriott, which was easily the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The beaches near Tamarindo are super cool, and we just took it easy and hung out at the beach and the resort while we were here. Unfortunately, I was a week too early for the BYU50 box. We then went to Arenal. On our way we stopped at the caves at Barra Honda and did some spelunking.

In Arenal we went waterfall rappelling. The first rappel was about 200 feet down with the waterfall right on our shoulder. My wife is afraid of heights and she was pretty nervous, but she ended up loving it. That night we went to Baldi Hot Springs. So, people kept saying the hot springs were well worth the money, and I just didn’t get it. I kind of pictured a cave with a swimming hole at the end, with hot water. Instead, they were beautiful resorts with about 15 pools with varying temperatures of water, 4 water slides, caves, waterfalls. It was ridiculous. We checked out both Baldi and Tabacon and opted for Baldi. It was half the price, and had more pools. I love swimming with my HCBW, but she always gets cold. Here, we would just jump to a different pool if she got too cold or too hot. We hung out for 6 hours and never got bored with it, we almost went back the next day. It was pretty sweet going down the waterslides in hot water. Awesome place.

Anyway, what a great place. There were a million wood-fired pizza places, and their pizza was actually really good. We ate a lot of the typical Costa Rican food too, which was also very good. The pineapple was amazing, and their smoothies were fantastic. There you have it. Thanks to everyone who chimed in with advice on what to do/see when we were there. It all contributed to a great trip for my HCBW and I.
