Nashty's Rant
I resonate with it because of the quiet dignity with which we have begun to fade as a football program. We parade out BYUtv shows about the football program called 4 decades of dominance, and we haven't even had an above average team in half a decade. I'm so tired of hearing out of Provo what a great program we are when the teams have not been so. I'm a bit tired of the cognitive dissonance. Do I expect BYU to not talk about it's storied history? No. But it's past now.

I wish out of BYU what I'd love out of a political candidate. Let's just be honest so we can talk about how to make it better.

Nobody who means anything has the courage to publicly say WHY DO WE LOSE WITH NEW REGULARITY TO NEVADA, SJSU, USU and the like?

Nobody with an actual voice has asked publicly WHY IN THE WORLD DO WE NOT PUT PLAYERS IN THE PROS? It seems valid for kids with potential NFL talent to avoid Provo even if the Church is vital to them. BYU IS A SPECIAL, SPECIAL place- but seems not equipt to help these kids reach their short term (NFL) and long term (family , eternity ) goals. It hurts to say and admit this, but right now it's true.

Why, oh why, do we have historically good/great defenses in years where the offense cannot regularly score any points? Why, oh why in a season like last year when the O can really score, can the defense not pick up a critical stop in any games? 29 second half points to Nevada at home? Huh?

Realistic fans don't even expect to beat Utah anymore. The gap widens and nothing short of P5 inclusion can stop it.

I love BYU football, but like Nashty, I've had to become a fan of general college football to avoid the reality that BYU football is trending downward. It just is. This fact is made more stark when compared to two programs in the state that are trending upwards.

This rant is not about Bronco. I think he's a fine coach. It's not about Holmoe as he's done a very admirable job under the circumstances. Like Nashty, my rant is about the pulsating suckitude of the reality that doing the right things for the right reasons, and being bearers of our faith has made the playing field uneven. (I'm sure the early founders of our Church feel really bad for us, LOL)

And since I'm being honest, I get frustrated with other "Christian" organizations for not having the courage or the social awareness to truly represent what The Master taught in these matters. Of course, that's also part of what he taught about the times we are living in.

Man, what a rant! I feel better.
