let me clarify a few things:
1. despite a few TIC posts this morning i am not burning all my BYU gear this morning and moving to tempe...don't worry.

2. for those that think my position is "fairweather" let me see if i get this straight. i grew up in mesa going to ASU games regularly. i was an ASU fan through and through. i went to BYU b/c that's where i knew i should be. i took ASU gear there and was one of those guys we mock mercilessly on here that wears hometown gear at BYU. i quickly converted to cougar blue and NEVER missed a game (either in stadium while at BYU or on tv once i left provo) until last season (twice). i have NO ASU gear left and pretty much the only tshirts i own are of teh BYU variety. in order to not be a "fairweather" fan should i never have "converted" to BYU-dom? are we stuck with the team we are geographically born with our whole lives? that seems silly.

3. without having to rehash issues i've brought up MANY times (RE sunday play, $$$ from LDS church, etc) there are things that i think the sponsoring institution of BYU could do that they have not done to help BYU keep up with modern day sports (football). i sense a divide among those regarding athletics and this is causing us to lack complete devotion to growing our football program. i somewhat sympathize with bronco and tom who are asked by fans to relive glory NC days with an admin and leaders who, quite frankly, don't care about that stuff. forgive me that my feelings about their football program are beginning to reflect their own.

4. from a big picture perspective, if we are passed up on P5 again (would be a third missed opportunity with Big12), i don't think we ever recover. P5 programs will pass us with increasing rapidity. if we keep football we will become NDSU sooner than many on here realize. this does not mean i will not cheer for BYU, my alma mater. of course i will. HOWEVER, i also LOVE major college football and will want to root for a team that is involved in the national discussion of major college football. ask yourselves this...when is the last time BYU played a "BIG" game...two ranked teams...on ABC/ESPN? gameday like situation? 2009? yep. people ignoring the trajectory of this program are lying to themselves.

5. i will never stop being a BYU fan...but due to my love for major college football i will naturally have to pick a team to follow. it only makes sense to go back to my home-town team of ASU, teh team of my childhood. i don't believe this to be fairweather. it's becoming a fan of a team in the sport you like...P5 football. BYU is NOT part of P5 football and this will increasingly become more obvious as time passes.

6. no one hopes more than i do that this ever-widening gap is closed by BYU being invited to a P5 conference in the near future. this will alleviate the needed change in my "fandom" but i will never stop donning BYU gear. i will never stop rooting for the Cougars...just don't get so bent out of shape b/c i want to have someone to root for in P5/major college football.
