A few tips and tricks. Don't pay retail price. There is a huge discount
available (I found it on a Buick forum when I was contemplating it for my truck).

I would have kept onStar at the discounted rate if I drove my truck more (it's a 2011 with only 28k on the clock right now), so we canceled.

I wish I could remember the rate, but it was under $200 for a year with 100 minutes and full-onstar service.

My dad has a new 2014, but onStar has seemed to have declined in service since the age of the cell phone. I dunno, with my 2011 it was a joy to call up onStar, joke around with the callers, they'd give recommendations then send my turn-by-turn, they'd offer reservations, you could book stuff, etc. It was a lot of fun to call them. And my truck's system and bluetooth is all done by either live onStar or a recorded woman's voice.

On my dad's 2014, onStar seems to have gone away from all of the extra "concierge" services (or they don't advertise them), they simply send waypoints to the Nav system. And the car's computer; while more capable, suffers from that really annoying "digital woman voice" that I despise.

IMO, the epitome of onStar peaked about 2011/2012.

That said, I like the service and the phone app is cool. I've heard the phone app is good for 5+ years despite an onStar membership?? That's new to me, my phone app died with my onStar account.

In short: If you use it, it's good. Just make sure you NEGOTIATE your deal and pay annually up front, much cheaper in the long run.
