I've tried doing what Nashty is contemplating. Its much harder than it sounds.
When we got passed up for TCU and WVU for the B12 I was floored. I took it pretty hard. I was one who fully believed the announcement was imminent and when it didn't come, I resolved to move on. I began my soul searching for what other team would inherit my time, attention and discretionary income. I first turned to my graduate school, Colorado. Registered on a few CU message boards, tired my hardest to be interested in CU recruiting, coaches, players, news, etc. I just couldn't make it work.

I then realized that 2 years at CU wasn't enough for me to feel connected to the program. Like Nashty, I decided to re-engage the team of my childhood, Arizona. I have found it easier to be interested in AZ, as I have a foundation of going to games as a kid during the Desert Swarm defense days. I knew and loved the basketball years of Sean Elliot and Steve Kerr. Even today I find myself most interested in AZ behind BYU. I would actually pay to travel to see an AZ game. I make sure to watch them play on tv. But I don't have the preseason and pregame anxiety that I do for BYU. I don't have the hate for ASU that I have for Utah.

Making that full conversion is much harder than it seems. I just can't seem to make myself care about who the WR coach is for AZ. I just can't seem to get into the AZ recruiting and preseason hype. Yet. I'm so deeply entrenched in BYU football in every aspect. There are the annual trips to the big away games with my former roommates that is a tradition whose excitement and anticipation has replaced Christmas of my youth. There's my addiction to CougarBoard, everyone I follow on Twitter and Instagram is the BYU football crowd. I know who the radio and print personalities around BYU. Replacing all that with another team seems almost impossible. But not totally impossible. Divorcing BYU Football would be absolutely life changing and extremely difficult. For better or for worse, It may take a complete and full dismantling of BYU football before I can fully separate and move on.
