Funny story about "Mormon night with the Braves" from back in the day
I am bored at work so I was just remembering about a missionary comp from Idaho who never believed my stories and would get mad every time I would tell them. He would always try and catch me in a lie believing that I was making all this up. At any rate, my family lived in Roswell, GA from 1987-1990. The ward we attended was the one that Dale Murphy attended as well. He was such a nice guy. I even got to babysit for him once and he was always such a good sport because he would always buy the candy for whatever fundraiser and sign autographs, etc, etc.

Anyway... the Braves must have been the first to implement the whole Mormon night with the (fill in your team) because when our ward did it all of the major professional LDS athletes came. From Steve Young to Vance Law to Wally Joyner among others (and they were all honored at the game as well). Honestly, for someone at my age (12-14), this was about as good as it got as the night before the game there was always had a huge fireside and then a meet and greet afterwards. But the funniest part is how this particular companion just refused to believe my stories about any of it. LOL, it really made him mad. He simply could not accept the fact that this happened.

What would have been funnier is if I had known at the time (1996) that Kyle Farnsworth was going to go on and have a decent MLB career. Kyle and I weren't buddies but he is definitely someone that we hung out with, played ball with, scouting, etc. I can still see the dude's expression every time I would bring it up. We never liked each other much so it was my one way of always getting his goat.
