Those conferences are saying that BYU meets a minimum scheduling criteria
It's not true P5 recognition. It will not really help recruiting. It will not help generate revenue very much. It will not reverse the growing trend of apathy among the fan base. And it does not really help in the quest for any level of legitimate post-season play. The only way to remedy any of those issues is to be part of a major conference. The height of independence came with the ESPN contract. Any future TV contracts are likely to be smaller, if there even is one (no guarantee there will be...) That is where I'm coming from for this perspective.
