Overlooked is the Big12 going west is the best way to stabilize the conference
I believe that the Big12 expansion committee has talked about the fact that W. Virginia is in a precarious position in the middle of ACC territory & would be a target to get picked off. Just like UCF, USF, Cincy etc B/w the ACC, SEC & BIG10. Expanding West ie: BYU, BSU, CSU, SDSU etc. I believe stabilizes the conference in more ways than one. yes the PAC is out west but thats all you'd have competing to steal any of those schools.

No you don't get the TV market that Orlando or Cincy may bring by bringing in a BSU but you get viable programs that won't go anywhere. SDSU would give SoCal, CSU may bring some of Denver back with money being poured into the program etc. Being proactive isn't the big12's thing but I think this is a worthwhile conversation that has to be taken place behind closed doors. It would take the presidents being real and honest about who they are and odds of getting poached b/c they are currently the weak link.
