i just like fewer people. but either is amazing. one has more people but more
shops and restaurants, one has fewer people and thus less commercialized.

What about the big island? I'm going to Hawaii in a few months and would love to

We went to the Big Island last year. Completely different feel than the other

Depends. Maui has better beaches, Kauai has better "outdoorsy" stuff to do

This is our idea and the reason our next trip will be to Maui.

Exactly ... it's a nice combination of Oahu and Kauai

Traveling with kids = Maui. Just you and the HCBW = Kauai

Also, is it possible to do both? Maybe 4-5 days in Maui and 4-5 in Kauai?

It's possible. Flights are short between Islands but you waste most of that day
