Once the big international soccer tournaments end, and we get into the doldrums of mid-season baseball, there just isn't much to hold my interest. No wonder football is so popular. Since there's nothing else going on and we're all bored out of our minds, we spend two months looking ahead to football season, talking about it, craving it. Finally, September rolls around and fooball rescues us from our sports misery, and all is well with the world again. It's brilliant timing by football, if you think about it.
