Arrogance led the BYU coaches to believe they could simply show up and out-execute Utah. Problem with that is that Kyle Whittingham knows how to coach a defense and had his team ready.
If there has been ONE distinguishing thing that sets Utah apart from BYU over the past ten years it is that their defense has always been strong. Year in and year out they can depend on it. To a lesser degree their special teams has been very consistent as well.
BYU on the other hand has had mediocre special teams at best and have stuggled to have either the offense or defense be good to great year in and year out. I think Bronco would like the defense to be the core strength of the program, but he can't recruit to meet the needs of his 3-3-5 and has had to limit his defensive philosophy and what could really be BYU's strength.
