My thoughts on a possible Nacua suspension, or non-suspension for that matter
No, I don't necessarily think Nacua should be suspended, although he definitely needs to be disciplined. And I'm not ashamed or afraid to say that. He didn't start the fight but his retaliation was clearly a dumb move that he should've avoided. It's one thing to defend yourself, which many of BYUs players were doing. But Nacua went on the attack after the fact, whereas he should've restrained himself.

With that said, had the fight happened mid season or any game other than the last game of the season, I would definitely feel a suspension is the best course of action.

But this incident happened after the final whistle of the final game of the season. That gives the coaches an eternity to punish Nacua, and make him go through a laundry list of requirements to get back in the coaches good graces. The whole point is that the punishment should meet the crime. During the season the only way to punish someone appropriately for something like this is to suspend the player. But in the off season you have much more time to thoroughly punish someone in other ways. The purpose of punishing someone is to help correct poor decisions or behavior. I believe the coaches can do that without suspending a player 9 months after the fact.

With that said, if he's suspended a game, I'll understand why. And if he's suspended just a half or not at all, I'll also think that's fine and will understand that things were resolved over the past 9 months.

If I did something wrong at work, you better believe I'd expect them to correct my actions, punish me or discipline me at that point in time and not 9 months later.

The whole point is that Nacua needs to be disciplined. But the fact remains that the event happened 9 months ago and the punishment doesn't have to be a suspension months after the fact.
