Chose a career/employer that allowed me the flexibility to take time off. I've given up some money to do that but feel very fortunate to be where we are and to have that flexibility.

Also, we made travel a priority - we live life simply and well below our means so that we can be in a position to help others as well as enjoy travel. Some people like a larger / more comfortable house, eating out, new gadgets, cable tv / high speed internet much more than we do; we enjoy traveling and spending money on experiences rather than things. We all have our priorities and our spending shows what those are.

We are also fairly frugal when we travel, at least maybe compared to some.

Credit card signup bonuses, etc. help a lot as well.
