One comment from Kafusi at about 00:43:18 makes me a little nervous vs. Nebraska and Mike Riley's mass protect philosophy: “When we get after the quarterback with the least amount of guys possible, then that allows us to drop more guys back. So, that’s where I feel I can be of use . . . So drop eight guys back there and rush three.” We were killing the Memphis QB with pressure on its last drive in regulation, then at the most critical point of the drive, took the pressure off and dropped back more in coverage (nine, I believe).
I can't think of many examples where this approach has been successful, which seems to be why BYU was so vulnerable on third and long situations last year. Even third string QBs look like All Americans when given massive time to survey the field. I am hoping we get and keep lots of pressure on the QB this Saturday.
