Planning on getting my young boys there first gaming system, need help...

By Christmas the older 3 will be 7,5 and 4. I was never much into gaming and don't know the pro's and cons's of the conventional gaming systems.

Currently leaning towards the Xbox or Playstation. The WII looks boring to me even as a non gamer.

What would you recommend or suggest I avoid and why?
