Tommy Armstrong, JR's numbers in 7 Career Non Con Games....
There has been a lot of discussion on this board about Tommy Armstrong, JR. Personally, I think his ability has been an overblown topic of focus for this game and the Huskers season in General. Both the National and Husker media, along with fans are spending too much time thinking about Nebraska with the football... IMO.

The key to the BYU game, for both the Cougars and the Huskers will come down to Hill and the BYU Offense around him.

1. Can Taysom still run like he did prior to the injury?
2. Can Nebraska stop the run ever again?
3. Can Nebraska create pressure off the edge in their new quarters scheme.

Those questions will determine the outcome of the game.

As for Tommy Armstrong, Jr and Nebraska. I think some of you are letting the absurd standards and absolutes of Husker fans cloud your perception of the kid. Nebraska fans often have an absolutist mentality about their football program.

"If a player is not the best. He's the worst."

This is an unfortunate way to go through life. But such is the reality of earning 12 dollars per hour in Nebraska. Anyway, Tommy Armstrong, JR is a very talented football player. He has a cannon for an arm and throws a vertical go route as well as anyone in the country. He was the QB of the Texas 5A State champs out of Houston and was recruited by Oregon, UCLA, Ole Miss, and Miss State. And he has destroyed bad defenses and secondaries in his time at Nebraska.

Here is his career Non Conference Numbers:

102 of 174 for 1,599 yards with 16 TD passes and 4 interceptions.

67 rushes for 459 yards and 3 TDs.

Games include:

SDSU
Georgia
USC
Miami
FAU
Fresno State
McNeese State

I'm sure there will be a transition period for Tommy with the new coaches, but a lot of people close to the program see Nebraska implementing a Pro Style scheme which looks much more like Seattle with Russell Wilson than Denver Peyton Manning.

Nebraska has a future NFL Left tackle in Alex Lewis, a future NFL Center in Ryne Reeves, and future NFL right guard in Chongo Kondolo. They also have some excellent receivers and running backs. IMO< they are going to score a lot of points vs. BYU... That's not smack, I just believe Nebraska played 5 top 30 defenses a year ago and has a lot of talent even with Ameer Abdullah gone.

Thats why the key to this game will be contingent upon Nebraska's defense.

Its sucked for a while. How they respond to the new scheme and staff will determine this game...

I come in peace btw...
