You're also missing an element that Michigan did have -- an offensive line capable of at least competing with Utah's D-front.
Offenses need time, a decent QB, and good WR's to beat Utah's D.
Fortunately for Utah, not a whole lot of teams have that. Unfortunately for Utah, a number of those who do are in their division.
