According to some being independent makes BYU irrelevant. If we can't get into a power 5 conference we need to go back to the mountain west at least then we will be able to be relevant every few years if we make it to the New Years 6. I have a few points to make.

1- Right now we are relevant. When we put together a tough schedule and do well even for a game or two we are nationally known. Our first two games we went 2-0. How many other teams both G5 and power 5 were 2-0? A lot were but how many of them were being talked about in ESPN articles and on national shows and radio? Even in NFL games a Hail Mary pass would elicit tweets about Tanner Mangum. No other school was called 'Americas Team'

2- We lost two games in a row. Sky is falling right? People are still talking about us though. We win a game against an ugly Uconn team and guess what? We are still getting votes in the AP poll! Yes we are not Utah but they had to go 4-0 and win against Michigan and at Oregon before they started getting national attention.

3- Every time conference expansion talks start up again (by the way where is blue brother?) BYU is always top of everyone's list on expansion. We have heard it so many teams we forget how relevant that makes us.

4- Boise State has one loss on the road by virtually a Hail Mary and are Barely ranked with the odds they I'll win out in an ugly mountain west and possibly get a consolation prize of the mandatory spot for highest ranked G 5 member.

5- Bottom line BYU being independent and our affiliation with ESPN have done more to helping the mission of the school (and church) and our teams relevance than we would ever find by returning to a lesser conference. Obviously if big12 calls we take it but right now we are definitely a relevant team.
