Lost credibility/realized who we were
We went in and beat Nebraska at their place on a Hail Mary, which was impressive considering Taysom was hobbled early in the game. Oh, wait. Nebraska already has 3 losses on the season with probably more to come.

BSU stoned our offense for most of the evening except for a couple of breakdowns in coverage on scramble plays. We won on a lucky Hail Mary where the shortest guy on the field caught the jump ball in traffic. We also faced a different QB than the one they have now, with the one they have now seemingly playing a lot better than the former when the lights are on. Good win, but if we were to play 10, BSU probably wins at least 8 of them right now.

We dazed and confused UCLA's rookie QB, and actually did fairly well vs their defense, but couldn't do a thing once UCLA abandoned their passing game. We thought it meant something when UCLA steamrolled Zona the following week, but apparently lots of teams are gonna steamroll Zona this year. And then UCLA found out what happens when a team can stuff their run game. Until Rosen gets up to speed, UCLA probably has a couple more losses on the year.

Now, we got unlucky when we faced Michigan. We're not as bad as we played, but Michigan did expose and exploit all of our weaknesses. Had we faced Michigan week 1 while they were still tentative and confused on both offense and defense and we still had Taysom, we probably get the win, but that didn't happen. We faced them week 4 after they'd had some time to work out a lot of the new coaching staff kinks, and their superior talent was simply too much for our 2nd string QB, 4th string RB, and our team that was simply exhausted.

UConn actually did a good job of showing us where we're at right now. We're not a bad team, we're not a great team. We're an almost good team that will improve as the season goes on. We flat out dominated a terrible UConn team, as a good team should, but our young QB and completely inexperienced RB's made lots of mistakes that kept UConn in the game for a lot longer than what should have happened. That may end up costing us vs an ECU, Cinci, or Mizzou. Hopefully by the time USU rolls around we'll be a lot more stable at those positions.

You've got to like a lot of what we've seen. Our defense, while still showing weaknesses here and there, is improving. Our QB has shown a ton of potential and an amazing arm. He's going to become really good. I know it was just his first game, but Francis Bernard looks like he has a ton of potential. Him, Jamaal, and Squally next season? Wow. Combine those three with a Tanner Mangum being forced to become the man this year, plus a returning o-line.......I hate being that guy that says "next year," and I'm a bit tired of waiting for "next year" since 2009, but "next year" could be really special. Could be, which is why I'm still excited to watch this year and see if these guys become the players I think they can be.
