I think this is what is happening. Younger backs are still learning to pick up
blocks, read defenses, and be in the right place at the right time. Carter at least, it seems, can do that. As the others learn to do that and gain trust from coaches, they will pick up more carries.
But there's more to running back than actually running with the ball. Although that is, of course, important, and 1.5 ypc isn't going to cut it much longer.
