Becoming a SAS expert takes a lot of time.

If, however, you are going to use SAS as a data mining/analysis tool the way most companies do, you can learn it enough to get by pretty easily. I got a job once that required SAS with zero SAS background, and didn't find it tough at all.

If you have done anything in SQL it would be really easy, but I am assuming you haven't.
